Gracie Barra Encinitas Jiu Jitsu

I've found the best way to learn is to roll up the sleeves and get involved.  A different aspect of learning can also be accomplished through pure observation.  On this night, I chose to watch through the lens and see the things normally missed while training. 

These were shot on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Gracie Barra Encinitas during the 7pm class.

I wanted to capture the inherent intensity, camaraderie, skill, joy, adulation, pain in these shots.

Swami's | June 26 2014 Appreciating the style of others can elevate yours. I like the blurry vision of this shot. The surfer made a great cutback on his single fin btw. This brother could surf...no doubt.  But if I'm out there for over an hour with just boardshorts on, you can afford to lose the gloves & booties.  Unless there's a medical reason... No, I didn't get her name...no name needed to make a connection out on the water. And, I'm not being a perv here, but something magical happens when there are ladies present in the lineup. Classic nose ride by Finn ( checkout his work on a King's SUP board ) ...for a long time too! Hi Ashley...unfortunately the shots of you surfing didn't come out well :(

Wim Hof Method @ Kam's  First group session at my house to implement WHM and cold therapy with four of my fellow Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial artist brethren ~ Professor Kevin (black belt), Blair (brown belt), Andy (brown belt), John (white belt), and myself (purple belt). We followed the agenda and protocol covered in these slides that I'm posting here to share with everyone in the spirit of shared knowledge and growth for all. We did two rounds of breath therapy followed by one cold immersion. First round of breath work was just to get used to the WHM of breathing but we also tracked time during the exhaled Retention period.  We did two sets of 30-35 breath reps in this first session.
